Bangladesh‘s ODI skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza is currently leading Rangpur Riders in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017-18. While Riders are languishing at the fifth spot, their captain has been fined 40 per cent of his match fees due to slow over rate in the encounter versus Dhaka Dynamites. Mortaza accepted the charges, and as a result no official hearing was required. In addition, his teammates had to part with 20 per cent of their fees.
In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the BCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel (for minor over-rate offences), players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fail to bowl within the allotted time. On the other hand, the skipper is fined double the amount. Riders were found to be 2 overs short when time allowances were considered.
Riders won a close match against Dynamites defending 143. Mortaza claimed 2 for 30 in his side’s 3-run victory.
