New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has been adjudged the winner of the CMJ Spirit of Cricket Award panel consisting Jonathan Agnew and MCC President David Morgan. The panel picked McCullum as they were particularly impressed with McCullum’s ‘leadership qualities and and the culture of fair play his team displayed’. McCullum recently led New Zealand to their first ever World Cup final at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. After the mega event they played a two-Test series against England and followed it up with a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series. An under par New Zealand team under the leadership of Kane Williamson visited Zimbabwe where the Blackcaps were again successful. An initiative created by the MCC and BBC, the CMJ award is given out to players in the memory of former MCC President and BBC Test match special cpmmentator Christopher Martin-Jenkins, who sadly passed away in January 2013. David Morgan, MCC President, said: “The entries for the CMJ Spirit of Cricket Awards were as strong as ever this year, and the winners can be very proud that they have been chosen. Brendon McCullum’s conduct throughout the New Zealand tour earlier this year embodied the ‘Play Hard, Play Fair’ message MCC champions through the Spirit of Cricket, and it’s fantastic to see that culture present within the boys and girls who have been recognised with the other awards. They are fully deserving of their acclaim and I hope they enjoy their prizes.” PHOTO: MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Brendon McCullum, other cricketers meet David Cameron ahead of charity T20 match at Oval
