New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum final One-Day International (ODI) was with typical start with Australia putting hosts to bat first at Hamilton, prior to which Australia stood in line making way for the 34-year-old, McCullum as soon as he entered the crease. McCullum smashed 47 off 27 balls, including nine boundaries, three of them sixes at Hamilton on Monday, as reported on Newshub.co.nz. He alongside his opener Martin Guptill put on 84 for the first wicket stand before he was out over looking Mitchell Marsh delivery high into the air and being caught by John Hastings. In Hastings opening over, McCullum played no boundaries in the first three ball and later went on to smash three boundaries from last three deliveries. When McCullum flicked a big one on Scott Boland’s spell, he completed his 200th ODI sixes, which was fourth most on the all-time list. He finished with 6083 ODI runs, with a highest score of 166 against Ireland at Aberdeen in 2008. He shares the Test sixes record with former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist with 100, a mark he is in line to eclipse in the upcoming two-Test series against the tourists. McCullum now is New Zealand’s third-most capped ODI player after former captains – Daniel Vettori (295) and Stephen Fleming (280). The third ODI at Hamilton was McCullum’s 260th and final ODI since his debut against Australia in Sydney 14 years ago. He brings curtains down to his limited-overs career with 6,083 ODI runs and 2,140 Twenty20 International (T20I) runs.
McCullum will end a 14-year Black Caps career, which began with a one-dayer against Australia in Sydney, after the second Test in Christchurch.
