Kolkata: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is to unveil on Sunday three Eden Gardens stands to be named after eminent personalities involved with the game in the state, a source said on Friday. The CAB officials are mulling naming seven stands after the likes of former India captain Sourav Ganguly and late cricket administrator Jagmohan Dalmiya. “The KL block will be named after Jagmohan Dalmiya while G and H blocks will be named after either A.N. Ghosh or Pankaj Roy and B.N. Dutt or Pankaj Roy,” the source said. CAB Joint Secretary Avishek Dalmiya had proposed the names of Ghosh, Biswanath Dutt, and his father.

The others after whom the stands will be named  – and unveiled later  – are Snehasnshu Acharya and Sidhartha Shankar Ray and Ganguly. With the army giving the go-ahead, the decks have been cleared for naming six Eden Gardens stands after eminent personalities involved with the game in the state including former Indian captain Ganguly and late cricket administrator Dalmiya, a  CAB official said on Thursday. The four others stands will be christened after ex-cricketer Pankaj Roy and former CAB presidents B.N. Dutt, A.N. Ghosh and Snehasnshu Acharya. Disclosing this, CAB presidentCAB to unveil  Ganguly said: “We received the permission from the defence authorities today [Thursday]. We will complete the work as early as possible”. The proposal had been passed in the CAB working committee meeting last year. But with the army being the custodian of the Maidan, where the Eden Gardens is located, its permission is mandatory before any such decisions can be implemented.
