Much has been said and debated about Ravi Shastri’s appointment as India coach in the cricketing circles. Shastri was given the nod ahead of the likes of Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput and Virender Sehwag by the 3-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. As per reports, Shastri’s name was a unanimous choice by the panel after discussion with India captain Virat Kohli. Late Tuesday evening when Shastri’s name was announced it was said that there was a split decision in the CAC committee with Ganguly not in favour of the former’s appointment. Zaheer Khan praised following India bowling coach role

In an interview to Indian Express, Ganguly explicitly mentions that Shastri was the unanimous choice. “No, no. It was unanimous,” Ganguly. He further stated that Kohli was kept in the loop and his point of view mattered the most. “We picked the best person we thought. In consultation with Virat, we picked the best person,” he added.

Along with Shastri, Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan were also appointed as India’s overseas batting consultant and bowling coach. “He (Shastri) was consulted by Sachin. That’s why we had asked for time,” Ganguly concluded.

The Committee of Administrators (COA) last evening hailed the CAC for picking Shastri as the head coach of India. “The Cricket Advisory Committee has made its recommendation regarding the coach. It is a comprehensive recommendation covering all aspects of the coaching requirement of any team,” the COA said in a statement.
