The National Anthem is being played again as the ceremony has come to a close. Again everyone stand up for the anthem. There will be no speeches from either Sachin Tendulkar or Prof CNR Rao. After the completion of the anthem, the gathering leaves the Rashtrapati Bahavan. This is definitely a proud moment for all cricketers and sportspersons in the country. Tendulkar might have been the first, but as he himself said earlier, hope there will be more. That is it from us, have a great day.

Prof CNR Rao just received the Bharat Ratna from the President. The entire gathering gave their applause.

 


 

 

The guests have assembled in the Rashtrapati Bahavan. President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are among the guests. The National Anthem was played.

 


 

 

Hello everyone, it is a big day ahead of us as Sachin Tendulkar will be conferred the Bharat Ratna today. The Indian cricketing legend will receive the country’s highest civilian honour at a function in at a function at Rashtrapati Bahavan in New Delhi. eminent scientist Prof CNR Rao will also be conferred with the award. Tendulkar retired from the game on November 16, 2013 after playing his 200th Test in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.

 

Tendulkar will be the first sportsperson to receive the Bharat Ratna from India. Tendulkar (40) and Rao (79), both of whom are recipients of Padma Vibhushan — the country’s second highest civilian honour, will join a list of 41 eminent personalities who have been conferred with the award that is given in recognition of exceptional service of the highest order since it was instituted in 1954.

 

The Bharat Ratna was announced after a gap of four years with Hindustani music doyen Bhimsen Joshi being the last recipient in 2009.
