India’s opening batsman Murali Vijay hit a stylish century on Day Three of the fourth Test against England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. The hosts put on 101 runs in the morning session off 31 overs as they quickly reduced England’s lead to just 153 by the break. Vijay started the day on 70 and shared a partnership of 116 for the third wicket. India suffered an early setback when Jake Ball bowled Cheteshwar Pujara, who was batting on 47 overnight, with just the second ball of the day.

Pujara’s dismissal marked the arrival of Virat Kohli who helped Vijay bring up his second century of the series after scoring 126 in the drawn first Test in Rajkot. Vijay was granted a reprieve just before lunch when he was on 116 after the umpire ruled him out leg-before off Adil Rashid. The right-handed batsman appealed the verdict and the TV umpire over-ruled the decision, deciding that the ball had struck Vijay’s bat first. Further, he looked set for a double-ton but was dismissed at 136 off the same bowler Rashid, who earlier almost got his wicket. He smashed 10 fours and 3 sixes on his way to a stunning 136. After the end of third day’s play, Vijay spoke about this special knock and dedicated it to his close friend’s late father, who passed away on Thursday.

Vijay did not mention his close friend name but surely a very humble gesture from a man who is nicknames as ‘Monk’. Watch the video of Vijay here:

Post the day’s play, BCCI also posted a picture of Vijay with a 5-year-old kid named Dhruv Tandel, whom the Indian player inducted as 12th man of Team India.

With the help of Vijay’s ton, India are currently having a strong hold in this match with their score of 451 for 7 at the end of Day Three.
