Charlotte Edwards, smashed her ninth century and first against India Women at home, as she guided England Women to 214 for the loss of nine wickets in the second One-Day International at Scraborough.

Her innings of 108, helped England put up a challenging target, as England went on losing wickets at regular interval. Charlotte’s century included 11 fours and she was unbeaten for almost three hours, as she faced the first and last ball of England Women’s innings.

India Women won the toss and opted to field on a day which looked less gloomy than the first ODI. There was a bit of spin in the pitch.

Charlotte Edwards and Heather Knight made a very slow start for the England Women. Jhulan Goswami and Nagarajan Niranjana were impressive with their bowling, and did not give much room for scoring. After 10 overs, England’s score stood 26 for the loss of no wicket. There were a couple of run out chances and soon Heather Knight went for a single which turned out to suicidal, as Shikha Pandey completed a good direct hit.

Sarah Taylor came in next and she played a lot of bottom-handed shots. However, soon she played on one of the deliveries by Shivanand Rajeshwari, as she flighted the ball, which hit the bat of Sarah and jumped and dropped on the wicket.

Lauren Winfield stood there for sometime with skipper Charlotte Edwards. In the meantime, Charlotte completed her 44th ODI fifty. However, Lauren Winfield was soon stumped by Karuna Jain, as Shivanand Rajeshwari picked her second wicket.

Lydia Greenway was the next batswoman and one would have thought with her Kent teammate, Charlotte Edwards, she would have stayed on there and put up on a good partnership.

However, as soon as the second Powerplay was taken, Jhulan Goswami first trapped Lydia and then the next ball she trapped Tammy Beaumont leg-before. Jhulan was on a hat-trick but Natalie Sciver made sure the Indian pacer did not achieve the feat.

Despite a disastrous start by England Women in the second powerplay, Charlotte and Natalie managed to comeback.

With seven overs left, England Women decided to go after the Indian bowlers. Natalie Sciver got a chance to hit Shivanand Rajeshwari for a boundary but landed safely on Poonam Raut’s hand.

A beautiful delivery by Jhulan in her last over, as the ball edged against the wicket and Jenny Gunn found her way back to the pavilion.

Jhulan Goswami and Shivanand Rajeshwari were the pick of the bowlers. Rajeshwari picked up four wickets and Jhulan finished with three wickets.

Brief scores:

England Women 211 for 9 in 50 overs (Charlotte Edwards 108*, Sarah Taylor 23; Jhulan Goswami 3 for 30, Shivanand Rajeshwari 4 for 42) vs India Women.
