Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scored 158 for 5 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 encounter. Having won the toss, CSK elected to bat first and managed to get a decent score on a wicket with a bit of help for the spinners. The innings started in typical fashion as Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith were aggressive to begin with. McCullum had a life early on when he pulled J Suchith straight to Harbhajan Singh at square-leg, where a simple chance went to ground. However, that did not deter MI as Vinay Kumar dismissed McCullum. Live Scorecard: Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2015

MI managed to pull things back with some disciplined bowling in the middle overs. Suresh Raina was playing his 150th game for CSK, all of them have come in a sequence. This means that he has played in every game CSK has featured in.

However, Raina did not mark the occasion as he was caught brilliantly by Hardik Pandya in the deep. And then, Smith holed out to mid-wicket, where he found Pandya. At 65 for three in the ninth over, CSK needed a partnership to find stability.

Faf du Plessis and MS Dhoni had a small partnership before the former was dismissed with the slog-overs. Pawan Negi walked out and injected life into the innings with an aggressive knock.  Negi made room, smashed over the off-side and also picked the long-on boundaries. They sent him ahead of Ravindra Jadeja and that innings showed why they had faith in him. In the last over, Negi was dropped twice as he kept adding crucial runs. Dhoni’s resolute innings kept CSK together through to the end. Negi’s 17 ball 36 may come very handy in the end.

Brief scores:

Chennai Super Kings 158 for five in 20 overs (MS Dhoni 39*, Pawan Negi 36; Mitchell McClenaghan 1 for 34, Jagadeesh Suchith 1 for 21, ) vs Mumbai Indians.
