Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 saw it’s first jaw-dropping moment when Chris Lynn took a sensational catch to dismiss AB de Villiers during the match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday. Though the match-winning catch stole everyone’s breath away, Lynn is known for being athletic in the field. Earlier this year in March, during a Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Queensland. In the 42nd over of the day, Peter Handscomb tried to loft Cameron Boyce over mid-on. The mistimed shot was flying well over Lynn who jumped and plucked the catch out of thin air. Below is a video of Lynn’s catch in the Sheffield Shield match on March 11, 2014.
Lynn’s catch and the brisk innings of 45 from 28 balls for KKR garnered lot of praise. This was Lynn’s second match in the IPL and had replaced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the side. Defending 151, KKR looked like the team to lose all through the match. Even during the RCB chase, Virat Kohli was dominating and Bangalore were cruising to a victory. However, some nervous moments at the end with Yuvraj Singh struggling to time his shots, the match became interesting.
Needing nine in the last over from Vinay Kumar, de Villiers and Albie Morkel picked a single each on the first three deliveries. De Villiers had refused a second run to Morkel on the third delivery, confident of finishing off the match. De Villiers pulled the ball ferociously over midwicket were Lynn was stationed. Lynn slipped while settling beneath to take the catch and was barely regaining his balance when he took the catch rocketing towards him. The fielder then fell inches inside the boundary ropes.
