Port of Spain: Sep 18, 2013

West Indies spinner Sunil Narine is hoping that his experience in the Indian Premier league (IPL) will help him perform for Trinidad and Tobago in the Champions League T20 2013 (CLT20) starting in the sub-continent nation this weekend.

Narine picked up 24 wickets in his maiden IPL season in 2012 and finished behind the leading wicket-taker Morne Morkel to help his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders win their only title in six seasons.

His consistency continued in the next season as he took 22 wickets.

“Having played in India and learning a lot with Kolkata (Knight Riders), I think I can use the Indian conditions to my best ability,” Narine said on Tuesday.

“Playing in the IPL is a plus I have and having won the T20 crown with the West Indies last year, I think I’m equipped for this challenge.”

Red Force will play one warm-up game before opening their campaign against the Brisbane Heat in Ranchi on Sunday.

Ranchi was Kolkata’s second home venue during the IPL last year.

The spinner has fond memories of the JSCA ground, having claimed a four-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

“I have experience playing at Ranchi and have done well there. I think that I can share my knowledge with my team when it comes to the venue and also to some of the teams,” he said.

“So far we have studied the teams that we are going to meet and the players have knowledge of them. We have the right crop for the title-run.”

The Trinidadians flew out of Port of Spain on Monday and will spend in London before making the final leg of their journey to India on Tuesday evening.

They will take on the Perth Scorchers in their only warm-up game on Saturday.
