Horror run for Antigua Hawksbills continues in this years Caribbean Premier League as lost their match against Barbados Tridents on Friday. This is Marlon Samuels’s Antiguan side’s fifth defeat in this tournament, although this was by far the closest of any of those contests. After winning the Toss, Tridents captain Kieron Pollard sent the Hawksbills in to bat.

The visitors started poorly as opener Danza Hyatt’s got himself runout three balls into the match. In the next over Ravi rampaul took two more wickets and after the end of the powerplay overs Hawksbills are 24 for four. After that captain Marlon Samuels rescued the innings with David Hussey. Together they put on a 51 run partnership.  After Hussey (24) got out in the 14th over, there are not much support for Samuels. They finally finished their innings on 129 for eight. Captain Samuels top scored with a positive 55 ball 66. For Barbados Ravi Rampaul took four wickets for juss 15 runs.

In reply Barbados Tridents also started poorly. In form opener Dwayne Smith got out for a duck in the first over itself. Sheldon Cottrell bowled a wicket maiden first over. After that the Barbados batsmen batted carefully. Shoaib Malik along with the  local boys Shane Dowrich and Jonathan Carter looked to be cruising towards victory. They reached 70 for three after end of ten overs, needing just run a ball 60 with seven wickets in hand in last ten overs.

But the match turned when Carter ran himself out for 35 in the 16th over. In that period three wickets fell in just 10 balls. After the end of 19th over Tridents are 119 for eight needing ten runs in the last over. Brad Hogg bowled the last over. Though Rayad Emrit got run out in the third ball of the over but some poor fielding by the visitors and sensible batting by the Tridents’s batsmen, the Barbados team won the match with two balls to spare, much to the delight of the home supporters. Ravi Rampaul for his excellent bowling was given the Man of Match award.

Brief scores:

Antigua Hawksbills 129 for 8 in 20 overs (Marlon Samuels 66, David Hussey 24; Ravi Rampaul 4 for 15) lost to Barbados Tridents 130 for 9 in 19.4 overs (Jonathan Carter 35, Shoaib Malik 18; Carlos Brathwaite 2 for 17) by 1 wicket.
