Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel continued to lead the points table of the Caribbean Premier League 2014 with a convincing eight-wicket win over St Lucia Zouks on their home turf on Saturday. Chasing a paltry target of 118, Ewin Lewis hit a half-century to lead the chase.
The Zouks have been abysmal in this edition as they have lost every match played so far. Trinidad won the toss and elected to field. The Zouks got off to a poor start losing their openers with only five runs on board. Andre Fletcher and Keddy Lesporis gave some hopes of revival but once Fletcher was dismissed, the Zouks continued to falter again. For a moment it seemed that the Zouks will not even reach the three-figure mark by somehow crawled past 100.
In response, the aggressive opener Lewis was off to a breezy start. There were no hiccups for Trinidad in the chase. Ray Jordan bagged both the wickets to fall in the innings. Ross Taylor remained unbeaten on 35 while Niocolas Pooran finished off the chase with a six.
St Lucia Zouks 117 in 19.5 overs (Andre Fletcher 24; Shannon Gabriel 3 for 20, Kevon Cooper 3 for 26) lost to Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel 119 in 14.5 overs (Ewin Lewis 59, Ross Taylor 35; Ray Jordan 2 for 25) by 8 wickets
