Cricket Australia (CA) on Saturday expressed disappointment over Scyld Berry’s racist comments on Usman Khawaja.
Following Australia’s defeat in the fourth Ashes Test match, Berry wrote “experiment with their Asian immigrant population will be shelved” if Khawaja was dropped for the last Test match of the series.
CA said the comments were ”unfortunate and poorly expressed”.
”Usman’s not a marginal player nor is he considered part of an experiment. ”He’s well regarded as an Australian cricketer and person by his fellow players and the wider cricket community.’
According to Sydney Morning Herald, Berry in his follow-up article clarified his comments.
”But still thought it important to contact him directly to express our disappointment. Usman is first and foremost an Australian and the comments trivialised what he’s trying to achieve,” the spokesperson said.
