Cricket Australia (CA) has refused permission to let Darren Lehmann coach Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the seventh edition of Indian Premier League.

“In Darren’s role as Australian coach, he will not participate in the IPL,” a CA spokesman was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror. The decision was confirmed when an official from KXIP said, ”He does not have the permission, so we can’t avail his services.”  Lehmann might have to cancel his contract with franchise this season.

The franchisee is likely to go without any replacement and will be banking on bowling coach Joe Dawes to manage the team assisted by Sanjay Bangar. Lehmann was appointed as the coach of KXIP in January 2013 before the start of the sixth edition of the IPL.

KXIP are among the few teams that might start fresh in this edition with their start player Adam Gilchrist retiring. Only David Miller has been a player who impressed and is likely to be retained.
