The county signings continue and the latest player to ink the deal is Dale Steyn. In a bid to make Test comeback, Steyn would be playing for Hampshire in the 2018 county season. His stint with Hampshire is expected to be in two parts. He will be playing one 50-over game and one County Championship fixture. Steyn would then be returning for the final leg of the Championship after the conclusion of the Sri Lanka series in July.

Steyn would also be filling in for his South African teammate Hashim Amla absence who is expected to join the club for the first three months of the season. Steyn has played only one Test since his return from shoulder injury in November 2016. Upon return, he suffered heel injury that ruled him out of Australia Test series.

Hampshire’s Director, Giles White was happy to hand Steyn in his unit: “Dale is one of the best bowlers in the world and is extremely motivated to get going after a frustrating period on the sidelines. It seems a great fit for both parties – we hope that we can help him get back to his best and we look forward to welcoming him to Hampshire,” as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.com.

Dale Styen’s impending record:

Since his debut in 2004, Steyn has scalped 419 Test wickets from 86 matches and requires three wickets to go past Shaun Pollock as the leading wicket-taker of South Africa. He holds a record of 26 five-wicket haul.

Steyn was also the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2013. He has also played a crucial role for South Africa in limited-overs cricket taking 238 wickets from 158 matches.
