Despite being out of the game for more than a year due to a career threatening injury, veteran spinner and former captain Daniel Vettori’s return to the New Zealand side for the ICC World Cup 2015 is backed by the selectors and former players alike.
In the recently released 20-man list of players who were awarded central contracts, Vettori’s name was omitted. Vettori has spoken to the selectors and has made it evident that he is eying a comeback to the national team setup, Sydney Morning Herald report.
New Zealand General manager Bruce Edgar said “He’s working pretty hard. I hear he’s pretty fit. It’s just a matter of form and we would look seriously at him if we know he’s available.”
Vettori had played his first match in the year when he featured in the MCC bicentenary fixture at Lord’s. He recently signed up for the Jamaica Tallawahs and will feature prominently in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
