Sunrisers Hyderabad scored a comprehensive 157 for three against Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Aaron Finch was the top scorer with 68, but David Warner was the one who gave them impetus at the death and helped Hyderabad move to that total.
In their first home game, Hyderabad won the toss and chose to bat. They were unchanged but Mumbai brought back Pragyan Ojha for Praveen Kumar. The wicket looked decent for batting and Hyderabad’s decision did not surprise many.
Finch played an almost chanceless innings. He held firm and attacked only on occasions. The shot that stood out was when he went inside-out to Ojha. On one occasion, he even hit it hard enough to go for a six. That helped Hyderabad start well and although they lost KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan inside the first ten overs, he had set the tone for the innings.
The Australian opener took 41 balls to get to his half-century. In Warner, Finch found someone who also took the attack to the opposition. It was interesting that Finch had slowed down a touch during the middle overs, but Warner continued to move at a good rate.
The Mumbai bowlers did a good a good job one would say. Jasprit Bumrah went for only 24 in his four overs. Harbhajan was only taken for 27. Plus Malinga was handled well by Rohit. He had brought him on early and had castled Dhawan with a good yorker. Later in the innings, he bowled a disciplined spell, but in the penultimate over, Warner managed to smash him for six over long-on.
But, Malinga returned to have Finch caught in the deep for 68. But, Warner was in good touch and managed another six down the ground. Hyderabad then managed to smash 18 off the last over, making it 33 off the last two. Thus, it took them to 157 in their 20 overs. Warner finished with 55 off 31 balls.
Sunrisers Hyderabad 157 for 3 in 20 overs (Aaron Finch 68, David Warner 55*; Lasith Malinga 2 for 35) vs Mumbai Indians.
