A fine batting display from Australia A kept them in control of the second Test on Day Two against India A. A 99 not out from Hilton Cartwright, took the hosts to a 150-run lead in their bags, and the first innings score reading 319 for 5. The highlight of the day was an important 152-run stand for the fifth wicket between Cartwright and Beau Webster. But that was after Nic Maddinson had scored an entertaining 81-run knock, including 12 fours and 2 sixes. While India A began the day with their overnight score of score 169-9, they could not add any runs to that score, as Hardik Pandya became Kane Richardson’s fourth victim, after being dismissed four balls into proceedings on Day Two.

Shardul Thakur made the early breakthrough for India A, as Travis Dean edged one to wicketkeeper Naman Ojha. Australia A captain Joe Burns was soon back to the pavilion, after Thakur managed to get his edge too. Australia A were 11 for 2 then. A fantastic spell of pace bowling followed but Maddinson along with Kurtis Patterson did survive the burst. Maddinson struck plenty of boundaries whenever India’s bowlers struggled to maintain their line, most of them went through the cover region. He was lucky to survive at 34, when Varun Aaron bowled three consecutive no-balls, one of which had got Maddinson’s edge that carried to hand. READ: Day 1 Report, Australia A hold advantage against India A despite Hardik Pandya endeavors

Maddinson carried along nicely then and continued to send the ball to the boundary more often. He was well partnered by Patterson, until Pandya claimed the latter’s wicket as Ojha completed the catch. While Maddinson was dismissed by Jayant Yadav and the score read 128 for 4 then, Webster and Cartwright slowly took the ship forward.

Webster did take his time, early on but soon both the batsmen looked well settled and the scoring rate increased. Webster though was the last man out, becoming Thakur’s victim with the new-ball in his hands. He departed for 79. Sam Whiteman (9) and Cartwright (99), who would have to wait a night for his second First-class century were at the crease at close of play.

Brief Scores
