Day 3 Report, Duleep Trophy: India Red 3 wickets away from victory
If Nathu Singh was the star performer with a six-wicket haul in the first innings for India red, Kuldeep Yadav stood tall in the second innings to confirm a big victory for his side.
India Red are just three wickets away from an emphatic victory over India Green at stumps on Day Three of Duleep Trophy. At stumps, India Green were 217 for 7. Yuvraj Singh led side had a terrific day on the field as they piled up a big total on board in the second innings and have given a daunting target of 497 for India Green to chase. The chase started well for Suresh Raina‘s side but they lost the plot completely in the last session to lost seven wickets before heading for stumps. The star performer for India Red was Kuldeep Yadav who stole the show with a five-for and has almost sealed the deal for his side in the match. On Day One of the match, Yuvraj Singh won the toss and elected to bat but his side could not cope up with the movement of the pink ball as they were dismissed for 161. In reply, India Green kept the game wide open with another disappointing performance with the bat. They were bundled out for 151, thus giving a lead of 10 runs to the opponents. India Red did not allow the India Green to stage a comeback in the match as their batsmen fared much better in the second innings and went onto score 496. Abhinav Mukund, who also had scored a valiant 79 in first innings, went onto score a century who was also supported by Sudip Chatterjee. Chatterjee also scored 114 runs and stretched his side’s total to close to 500.
India Green were off to a flyer as they were scoring at a good pace and had wickets in hand. Robin Uthappa and Parthiv Patel were going at a brisk rate but Uthappa’s dismissal opened the gates for India Red to push hard in the match. They are just three wickets away from a win with only Raina battling it out for his side.
Raina’s side will look for redemption in their second game against India Blues, led by Gautam Gambhir. India Red have surely bounced back after failing big time in the first outing against the pink ball but have learned well and quickly. They will be looking to close the match as soon as possible on Day Four.
