Sri Lanka‘s middle-order mainstays, Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews have consolidated and worked towards a healthy lead as the teams went for lunch at 285 for four on Day Four. Chandimal carried on from where he left last night as he scored a patient fifty. He has so far been ably supported by skipper, Mathews. The Lankans now have an overall lead of 106 runs with six wickets in hand.
At the end of third day’s play, Sri Lanka were tottering at 186 for four, reeling under the late damage by the Pakistani duo of Bilawal Bhatti and Junaid Khan. The speedstars grabbed three quick wickets at the fag end of the day. Bhatti got the crucial wickets of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene off consecutive deliveries.
Chandimal and Mathews have shown composure and a responsible mindset in their approach so far. Pakistan, on the other hand, will be hoping to somehow break this partnership as that would open the floodgates.
Sri Lanka 204 and 285 for 4 ( Kaushal Silva 81, Dinesh Chandimal 67*, Angelo Mathews 56*; Junaid Khan 2 for 66, Bilawal Bhatti 2 for 90) lead Pakistan 383 (Younis Khan 136, Misbah-ul-Haq 135; Shaminda Eranga 3 for 80) by 106 runs.
