Faiz Fazal and Robin Bist were batting at scores of 60 and 10 respectively, while Pragyan Ojha emerged the only wicket-taker for South Zone in Central’s second innings so far, conceding 30 runs in the process while taking the all-important wicket of Jalaj Saxena, who departed for a score of 71.
Central Zone reached 68 for no loss at the end of 12 overs at lunch, with Faiz Fazal and Jalaj Saxena batting on scores of 28 and 37 respectively. The second session was comparatively slow for Central, who scored 70 runs from 30 overs at a scoring rate of a little over 2 runs per over, along with losing a wicket in the process. Things were going very smoothly for Central at one point, when both batsmen brought up their respective half-centuries, and the 100-run opening stand was brought up as well. The run-flow was corked by Ojha during the 38th over, when Saxena, who was dismissed for a score of two from 43 balls, was trapped leg-before.
Delhi-born Robin Bist came in to bat next, and the pair of Bist and Fazal managed to hold on to their wickets till the end of the session. The pair will hope to recover from the loss, and build a foundation for a big total from here. Meanwhile, Fazal brought up his 22nd First Class half-century, after narrowly missing out on it in the first innings.
The day began with South Zone resuming from their imposing overnight score of 308 for four, with Lokesh Rahul and Hanuman Vihari batting on scores of 168 and 38 respectively. The duo began on a smooth note, getting the boundaries at regular intervals during the overs of Pankaj Singh and Ishwar Pandey. Vihari was especially ruthless on the bowlers, sending the ball over the ropes regularly, bringing up his half-century in no time.
Brief scores:
Central Zone 276 and 138 for 1 (Faiz Fazal 60*, Jalaj Saxena 71) lead South Zone 379 (Lokesh Rahul 185, Hanuman Vihari 75; Ali Murtaza 4 for 59, Pankaj Singh 3 for 67) by 35 runs.
