Even after a decent start, India Red were reduced to 161 for 7 at the end of the second session of Day One against India Blue in the second match of Duleep Trophy 2017. From 73 for 1, India Red lost successive wickets, thanks to the stellar performance by Ankit Rajpoot. India Red now stare down the barren, and will look to make amends in the last session with whatever they have, at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Baba Indrajith (32*) will continue batting with Siddarth Kaul (0*). READ: India Red 73-1 at tea, Day 1 against India Blue

Before dinner, the only wicket that the India Red had lost was that of their centurion from last match, Priyank Panchal. However, with over 70 runs on the board and 9 wickets in hand, India Red were looking strong to put up a big first-innings total. It was India Blue captain Suresh Raina, who provided his side with a crucial breakthrough, removing set opener Sudip Chatterjee for 34 right after tea. The wicket triggered the collapse as India Red went on losing wickets one after another. Only Baba Indrajith showed some defence as all his partners, including skipper Dinesh Karthik, departed either for single-digit scores or in 20s. Indrajith was the only batsman, apart from the openers, who crossed the 30-run mark.

Challenge lies ahead for Indrajith to bat with the tail-enders and at least take his side past the score of 200. 23-year-old Rajpoot was undoubtedly the star of the session, with a 3-wicket-haul at the end of it. Bhargav Bhatt, Akshay Wakhare, Raina and Manoj Tiwary are the others successful with wickets. India Blue, in this session, gave away 88 runs but bagged 6 wickets.

Brief scores:

India Red 161 for 7 (Priyank Panchal 36, Sudip Chatterjee 34, Baba Indrajith 32*; Ankit Rajpoot 3 for 33) against India Blue.
