Sydney: Feb 2, 2014

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has reportedly said that it is yet to make a call on the future of controversial batsman Kevin Pietersen in the Test team.

There was widespread speculation in the British media that the relationship between outgoing team director Andy Flower and Pietersen had reached breaking point and that they could no longer continue working together.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, although Pietersen has signaled that he intends to keep playing international cricket until at least the 2015 Ashes in the UK, however, ECB chairman Giles Clarke refused to be drawn on whether Pietersen had played his last Test for England.

The report mentioned that a clearer indication on the issue will come when England names its squad for the one-day series in West Indies and World Twenty20 in Bangladesh and Clarke said that he has spent “zero time” on Pietersen or whatever he or the selectors are choosing to do.

Clarke also said that he has been focused on ICC business and on looking at the coaching strategy as far as Flower is concerned, adding that Flower had stepped down of his own accord and was not pushed out from his position.
