Kolkata: With the army giving the go-ahead, the decks have been cleared for naming six Eden Gardens stands after eminent personalities involved with the game in the state including former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and late cricket administrator Jagmohan Dalmiya, a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official said on Thursday. The four others stands will be christened after ex-cricketer Pankaj Roy and former CAB presidents B.N. Dutt, A.N. Ghosh and Snehasnshu Acharya. Disclosing this, CAB president Sourav Ganguly said: “We received the permission from the defence authorities today [Thursday]. We will complete the work as early as possible”.

The proposal had been passed in the CAB working committee meeting last year. But with the army being the custodian of the Maidan, where the Eden Gardens is located, its permission is mandatory before any such decisions can be implemented. Ganguly is being tipped to be the next BCCI president, but has said that he has not thought of what future holds for him. “I have not thought about anything. We will see what needs to be done,” said Ganguly who is currently holding the post of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president. The former India captain also dismissed reports that he has resigned from the CAB President’s post. “I have not done so,” he replied curtly, when asked whether he has quit CAB chief’s post.

But the Lodha Committee had mentioned that Ganguly is not eligible to be BCCI president has he has not undergone the 3-year cooling off period. If an individual has been an existing office bearer in a State/Member Association for 2 years, is he eligible to contest for the next elections without the 3 year cooling off period applying to him? If yes, what will be the term of his office?
