Ellyse Perry, New South Wales all-rounder is excited to be counted amongst great former players of St George’s team like Reg Gasnier, John Raper and Norm Provan when she takes the field in Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) 2015 final against South Australia (SA) Scorpions on Sunday. However, she is not contemplating to script history by equaling St Georg’s record by helping NSW Breakers win their 11th title in WNCL on a trot. NSW have been reigning champions since the last 10 years starting from 2005. St George’s on the other hand, were champions for 11 consecutive years (1955 to 1966), a record. Women’s National Cricket League 2015: Megan Schutt positive of SA women victory against NSW women in final

In a conversation with Sydney Morning Herald she said, “We’ve never mentioned the record among ourselves, but we’re very fortunate to have had a lot of experience in big matches over the last 10 years. This season has been a very competitive one, there’s been a lot of tough cricket, but it’s pleasing we’ve started playing our best cricket towards the end … it’s a nice feeling going into a final.”  READ: Ellyse Perry to balance cricket with personal life

Meanwhile, skipper Alex Blackwell said, “She’s been so consistent with the bat. It was only a matter of time before she scored her first WNCL hundred. She accumulates runs so well and she has the power game as well. Her batting this year has been outstanding; she’s been our most consistent batter and has got regular scores above 50. We’re confident we have the team to win this final, but it’s going to be a very good match against a very good South Australia team. They also look like they’re enjoying their cricket and playing well as a unit. The two best teams have made the final.”

“It’s great we’re getting the level of interest to have the final linked with a great sporting team [St George] from the past. I thought that winning 10 in a row last year was significant, but maybe if we win the Breakers will continue to get that kind of exposure in the years to come.”
