ENG vs SL, 4th ODI: Kusal Mendis’ fifty takes SL to 127-1 as rain stops play

The five-match ODI series is currently 1-0 in favor of England and Sri Lanka will have to win the 4th ODI to stay alive in the series.

Sri Lanka were 127-1 in 18.1 overs against England in the 4th ODI as rain stopped play. The match which is being played at the Kennington Oval in London is an important tie for Sri Lanka and Kusal Mendis and Dunashka Gunathilaka were playing excellently at the crease. The duo put on a 100-run partnership for the 2nd wicket after Kusal Perera was unfortunately run-out in the second over. Gunathilaka’s attempt of sneaking in a single after a defensive shot led to the run-out by Jonny Bairstow. Mendis looked in fine touch ever since he came at the crease. He reached his fifty off 44 balls and made most of the wicket which looks like a batting paradise. Gunathilaka started off slowly but carried on nicely. He made most of the bad deliveries and didn’t allow spinner Adil Rashid to settle. His cautious start helped him to stay longer at the wicket this time around. He managed to reach 48 off 49 balls and was still at the crease. Earlier, England captain won the toss and decided to field first. England brought back Moeen Ali into the team after he was left out for Chris Jordan in the third ODI at Bristol. The series is currently in favor of the hosts. The first match at Trent Bridge was a tie. The second ODI at Edgbaston was an easy win for England as openers Alex Hales and Jason Roy notched up hundreds and took them to a 10-wicket win. The third ODI was abandoned due to rain.
