Australia lost their fourth wicket with 218 runs on board when Glenn Maxwell was caught leg-before-wicket (lbw) off the bowling of Steven Finn during the second One-Day International (ODI) against England at Lord’s on Saturday. Maxwell, who struck four boundaries and three sixes during his whirlwind knock, fell just one run short of his 12th ODI fifty as Finn picked up his second wicket of the day as a result. It also brought an end to a promising fourth-wicket stand between Maxwell and Shane Watson, which was worth 47 at the time of the dismissal. Mitchell Marsh arrived at the crease as a result of the fall of wicket to join Watson. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: England vs Australia, 2nd ODI at Lord’s

Earlier in the match, left-handed opening batsman David Warner was forced to retire hurt after sustaining an injury to his left thumb. The southpaw was struck on the thumb while attempting to fend a bouncer bowled by Finn. He went for the single, but had to take his gloves off while signalling for a physio afterwards. Fellow opener Joe Burns, who was in good form in the first ODI (44) as well as the one-off ODI against Ireland, was clean bowled by Finn while attempting to go for a straight drive, with the ball angling into the stumps as a result of which the batsman missed the line of the delivery completely.  LIVE CRICKET UPDATES: England vs Australia, 2nd ODI at Lord’s

Australia skipper Steven Smith went on to form a formidable second-wicket stand with George Bailey, as the duo brought up their respective fifties off 68 and 63 deliveries. The breakthrough however, occurred when Bailey was bowled off the bowling of Moeen Ali while attempting to make room for himself for a cut, falling after scoring 54 off 72. Smith joined him in the pavilion later after scoring 70 off 87, getting a bottom edge to give James Taylor a simple catch at short backward point.
