India comfortably defeated England  by 8 wickets in the first ODI at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Rohit Sharma  guided India to victory with his century in the 41st over. Chasing 269, Rohit recorded his 18th century in 82 balls. His unbeaten knock of 137 off 114 balls included 15 fours and 4 sixes with an outstanding strike rate of 120.18. He added 167 to the third wicket partnership with Virat Kohli to ensure win for India. Rohit’s first 98 ODI innings only produced 2 centuries whereas he smashed 16 tons in his next 77 matches, all of them came as an opener.

In the first innings Kuldeep Yadav added his name in the record books picking six-wicket haul as India bowled England out for 268.He recorded best bowling figures by a spinner against England, best figures by left-arm spinner and also fourth best figures by an Indian. Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes smashed half-centuries with Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid hitting some boundaries in the end overs. Siddarth Kaul, playing his maiden ODI did not pick a wicket but bowled an economical spell of 10-0-62-0.
