England are already facing injury concerns ahead of the Test series against South Africa. Stuart Broad picked heel pain after bowling one over during the Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire clash in English County. Despite being injured, Broad had something to rejoice as his side Nottinghamshire defeated Leicestershire by an innings. Broad, however, would have to go for a scan in the next 24 hours to understand the depth of the injury. England will be playing their first Test against South Africa on July 6 at Lord’s. The hosts are already without few of their key players. Chris Woakes is still recovering from side strain. Ben Stokes and James Anderson are also recovering from knee and thigh injury respectively. The Nottinghamshire coach Peter Moores spoke in detail about Broad’s injury to ESPNcricinfo.com, “Stuart had a bit of pain in his heel. He’s had it for a while. If the situation had been different he could have pushed on through it but there was no need to so he came off and we’ll monitor it and look after him.” Moores also stressed that Broad left the field as a precautionary measure. He also hinted that the scan is being taken with the Test series round the corner.
Although Broad would be itching to be back to the Test arena from July 6, England would have wanted Broad to get some pink-ball experience in the day-night championship matches beginning from next week.
South Africa will also be facing a big blow with their Test skipper Faf du Plessis doubtful to make it for the first Test owing to the birth of his first child.
In his absence from the T20I series, AB de Villiers has donned the captain’s role.
