England and Sri Lanka will kick off what has been a highly anticipated first Test match to be played at Lord’s. Alastair Cook and Angelo Mathews will captain the respective sides. As it is the first Test match of the series, both units will look to take the upper-hand early in the match. England will bank upon their experienced duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad to cover up for the inexperience in their batting line-up. For Sri Lanka, their pacers have to bowl to a plan and hope that Rangana Herath can act as a strike force with his slow left-arm orthodox. Their batting line-up will depend on Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, the seasoned veterans. Angelo Mathews too will be expected to come good for the visitors.

The track is expected to play true and it should turn out to be a good batting track. The fickle English weather though, can play a part on occasions. The problem for Sri Lanka when they are playing away from home has always been their pace bowling stocks. In the shorter forms of the game they can get away with it.
