England‘s pacers will look for early wickets against Sri Lanka on the third day’s play at Lord’s. On the second day England’s batsmen scored at a quick rate and went onto make 575 for the loss of nine wickets on the board. Joe Root was England’s best batsman on view and he duly got to his double hundred. Sri Lanka replied well in the first innings. But they will need to carry on the good work on the third day.

As far as Root is concerned, it was a great day for him. In fact, the time someone scored a double hundred for England was Ian Bell and that came against India at the Oval in 2011. He was also the fourth youngest batsman from England to score a double ton. Root played a fine knock. He started his innings on a sedate note and then, played his shots. He was well supported by the likes of Matt Prior, Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad and even Liam Plunkett. Catch the live blog here.
