England have completed an outstanding limited overs showing against Pakistan by clean sweeping the three match Twenty20 International (T20I) series after sealing victory in the final game by winning the super over. Chris Jordan bowled fantastically in the super over keeping Pakistan down to just three runs and even clean bowled Umar Akmal off the final delivery. Pakistan bowled Shahid Afridi to try and contain England and while he bowled smartly, it was little too much of an ask for him as Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler got the necessary four runs, albeit unconvincingly. Pakistan once again endured a false start and as has been routine through the course of this limited overs series, their middle order crumbled with the exception of Shoaib Malik. Malik batted steadily not focussing on big hits due to the fact that everyone around him was crumbling, but once he was joined by Shahid Afridi and the need to score became mandatory he took the bowlers on and batted sensibly. Afridi was in his elements and smashed a couple of big hits. One of Afridi’s sixes reached top tier of the stands. LIVE CRICKET UPDATES: Pakistan vs England 2015, 3rd T20I at Sharjah
What once seemed like a impossible task for Pakistan was a very realistic possibility when the duo brought the equation down to 51 needed of the last five overs with five wickets in hand. However Afridi was dismissed by a smart David Willey slower ball in the 18th over for a 20-ball 29. That brought Sohail Tanvir to the crease. The duo took the game to the final over with 10 required.
Chris Woakes had the ball and conceded a single in the first ball to take Malik off strike but it was not bad news for Pakistan because Tanvir launched the next ball for a massive straight six! It seemed all over for England with the opposition needed just three of four deliveries, however a dot next ball brought some hope back.
Tanvir got bat on ball next and ran the single to get Malik on strike. Malik hoped to finish the match with one big hit but miscued the shot to long on! Pakistan suddenly need two for the win of the final delivery. Woakes beat Tanvir of that ball but the batsmen scampered a bye and the match was tied!
Pakistan sent Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal to face the super over, Chris Jordan was the bowler. Jordan bowled a fantastic over conceding a mere three runs and taking a wicket. He got most of his yorkers right and bowled smart. He followed Afridi down the leg side on multiple occasions and restricted his bat swing.
England required just four to win the tie and Eoin Morgan walked out with Jos Buttler to get the job done. Shahid Afridi was Pakistan’s choice for trying to hold them back. He bowled smartly and got in a couple of dots to put some pressure on England but England kept their calm and came out triumphant.
