South Africa‘s middle-order batsman Faf du Plessis hoped that his Twenty20 (T20) and Test form will force the selectors to include him in the One-Day International squad as well.
“I was a bit disappointed and surprised to have been left out of the ODI team. I realise that Jacques Kallis would return to the No 3 spot, but I was still surprised not to have been part of the overall squad,” du Plessis was quoted as saying by Supersport.com.
Du Plessis has been consistent in the Twenty20 and Test format. He even showed his temperament to rescue South Africa and take them near an improbable victory in the first Test against India at Johannesburg. Du Plessis felt that the No 4 spot left vacant by Kallis is tough ti fill but he is up for the challenge. After his performance in the series against India, he is likely to replace Kallis for the important series against Australia.
The series against Aussies is going to be a clash of the formidable bowling attacks of the two teams. “The Australian attack is perhaps closest to the SA bowling unit. [Mitchell] Johnson has express pace. Peter Siddle’s bowling is similar to Vernon Philander’s style, while Ryan Harris provides the bounce. Their spinner [Nathan Lyon] is bowling very well at the moment. It might suit us to prepare a greener wicket. It might help us to neutralise David Warner, as he could do a lot of damage on another wicket,” he said.
