Opener Hashim Amla and skipper Faf du Plessis took South Africa to 150 for five in 20 overs in the second T20 International against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday.

The openers repaid the faith of the skipper as they took the visitors off to a good start after du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat.

Quinton de Kock was the aggressor in the opening stand as he contributed 30 off the 37 runs that the duo put on. However, he perishes as soon as Saeed Ajmal is brought into the attack in a bid to slog, but edges the ball to Umar Amin at mid-wicket. His breezy 19-ball innings included six boundaries.

Amla held the fort from one end as he was joined by du Plessis at the fall of the first wicket. They put on 78 runs off 60 balls, before Amla falls two short of a half-century. He smashed three fours and two sixes.

Du Plessis remained unbeaten on 58. His 48-ball knock included a boundary and three sixes.

For the hosts, it was Saeed Ajmal again who posed trouble to the opposition batsmen with his spin and guile. He returned with figures of three for 25.

Brief scores:

South Africa 150 for 5 in 20 overs (Hashim Amla 48, Faf du Plessis 58*; Saeed Ajmal 3 for 25) vs Pakistan
