Siobhan Gregory hopes that the SCG Test match doesn’t get over by the third day. As the 11-year old great- great-grand-daughter of Australia’s first Test captain Dave Gregory, will be leading both Australia and India on the fourth day of the SCG Test.

“The New South Wales Blues (team that plays in the first class cricket competition in Australia) has a membership for junior cricket players and fans. Our three daughters (the other two are Skye, 9, and Maeve, 6,) are members and they asked for nominations for one boy and one girl each day to be the flag bearer for the Australian or the Indian teams at the Test matches and one day internationals and T20s in Sydney over the Summer. By chance our eldest was selected and we informed the SCG of our family connection,” Len Gregory was quoted in the ANI.

Young Siobhan is proud to be part of the family history. Cricket has been the tradition in the family and Siobhan is proud to be a part of it. The whole Gregory family is hoping that the match doesn’t end in three days.

“If the match is over in three days well she misses her chance to hold the flag well so be it. Let’s hope it is like all great games, has many ebbs and flows with either side being on top, with the winner being cricket and the friendship and spirit between the countries be enriched by it,” Len said.

Siobhan is also an admirer of Virender Sehwag.

“While Siobhan enjoys T20 and big hitting by players such as Dave Warner, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle, I encourage them to appreciate and understand the fielding positions and tactics involved and why it’s a game that can have so many hours and days of enjoyment,” concluded her Len Gregory.
