Ganesh Satish’s unbeaten half century has led the way for Karnataka in the Irani Trophy contest against Rest of India (ROI). At lunch on Day Two, the hosts are 159 for three with Satish on 71 not out. Karnataka are only 42 runs behind.
It was a morning that began with Satish lacing the park with a few dazzling strokes. With a typical Younis Khan-like shuffle, he guided the ball through point and gully with ease. There was a lot of control in those shots through the day. He merely opened the face of the bat at the last minute and used the pace of the ball.
Even as he started fluently, KL Rahul was a spectator and did not have much to do on the day. He was then bowled by one that kept low went through his defence. Anureet Singh was the only successful bowler for ROI in the morning.
But, Karnataka’s assault continued as Satish kept playing those dazzling strokes. Even when the bowlers pushed it through on his pads, he glanced it with precision. Manish Pandey was attacking and played with authority. Some of the drives he hit were a combination of power and timing. However, the best shots came when he flicked Anureet through mid-wicket; once even charging to him and flicking him over the top.
While Satish went through to his half-century, Pandey was going strong. His dismissal took place against the run of play as Pankaj Singh pitched it on a good length and had him edging it to the wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.
Pankaj found a bit of venom as a result and troubled Karun Nair. But Satish ensured they went into lunch without further damage.
Rest Of India 201 (Dinesh Karthik 91, Amit Mishra 47; R Vinay Kumar 6 for 47, Stuart Binny 3 for 35) lead Karnataka 159 for 3 (Ganesh Satish 71*, Manish Pandey 36; Anureet Singh 1 for 33, Pankaj Singh 1 for 45 ) by 42 runs.
