Former South African player and coach Gary Kirsten has been drafted by Cricket South Africa (CSA) as consultant to help the team in the remaining Twenty20 matches against Australia. Kirsten was working as a batting consultant after he quit the role of South Africa head coach in May 2013.

“It’s always good to have his cricket brain among our ranks. He understands us well and for me as captain it is wonderful to be able to listen to his ideas. He helps me an awful lot with the strategy we have to employ,” skipper Faf du Plessis was quoted as saying to Beeld by Sport 24.

“Australia are a very dangerous team in this format. Their strength is that they have big hitters (Aaron Finch and David Warner) early in the innings, while we are more dangerous towards the middle and latter part of our innings.”

South Africa are placed in Group 1 of the ICC World T20 with Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand.
