Former India captain and renowned commentator Sunil Gavaskar has rubbished the comparisons being drawn between all-rounder Hardik Pandya and India’s World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev. Observers of the game and fans alike have often alluded to Pandya being the next Kapil, ever since the former made his debut on the international circuit two and a half years back.

Kapil had also once expressed hope and wished for Pandya to overtake him achieve greatness for India. However, the legendary all-rounder’s former team-mate Gavaskar hasn’t taken too kindly to these comparisons and he believes its a fallacy to even think on the lines of equating someone who has started out recently on his career path with a legend who has achieved so much in a glorious one.

“Kapil Dev should not be compared with anyone. He is not just a once-in-a-generation player but a once-in-a century cricketer just like Sir Don Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar. We should not compare him with anyone,” Gavaskar told Aaj Tak during a show.

Pandya was the second highest run-scorer for India in the Edgbaston Test with his two innings combined fetching a total of 53 runs.

The second Test of the five-test series between India and England starts at the Lord’s cricket ground on August 9.
