Google has created a special doodle for the India–Sri Lanka Cricket T20 World Cup 2014 final at Mirpur on Sunday. The doodle encompasses various facets of the sport. The six letters in the word Google have been replaced by cricketing figures — a fielder, a ball, a batsman and also spectators. MS Dhoni will captain India and Lasith Malinga will lead Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup final.
This is India’s second T20 World Cup final appearance, after they won the inaugural edition in 2007. Sri Lanka, on the other hand have any played two previous finals, but have lost both, which includes the 2012 game on home turf. India have won all their matches in the tournament so far. They topped Group 2 with comfortable wins over Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Australia.
India then beat South Africa by six wickets in the semi-final chasing down a 173-run target. Virat Kohli led the way with an unbeaten 72. Sri Lanka topped Group 1. They won matches against South Africa, New Zealand and thrashed the Netherlands. They did lose to England in a high-scoring match.
Sri Lanka defeated defending champions West Indies in the semi-finals by 27 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method. The match was reduced due to heavy rain and hailstorm. Now with the two subcontinental giants taking on each other in the final, one can expect huge crowds tuning into the action.
