Indian off spinner Harbhajan Singh paid tribute to batting legend Sachin Tendulkar who on Sunday announced retirement from One-Day International (ODI) Cricket.

Harbhajan tweeted on his official account, “Sachin Tendulkar a great batsman. Great human being. A great friend. Great man to look up 2.proud Indian. Real son of India. I salute you and love you”

Earlier, Tendulkar announced retirement from 50-over format through a statement to the BCCI. According to media reports, the Indian board made the announcement when the selectors were about to meet to select the squad for the upcoming Pakistan series.

Speculations were rife for some time that the batting legend will call it a quits following a recent slump in form.

Tendulkar in a statement to the BCCI chief N Srinivasan said that he was glad to be a part of world cup winning team.

He was quoted by NDTV as saying, “I have decided to retire from the One Day format of the game. I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup wining Indian team.

“The preparatory process to defend the World Cup in 2015 should begin early and in right earnest. I would like to wish the team all the very best for the future. I am eternally grateful to all my well wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years.”
