Sydney: Rookie Pakistan all-rounder Haris Sohail‘s ‘ghost encounter’ in his Christchurch hotel room has earned him the tag of ‘World’s Worst Person in Sports’ by ESPN’s Olbermann program, that is hosted by Keith Olbermann.
Sohail had claimed that a ghost shook the bed in his Christchurch hotel room, and was so shaken by his alleged supernatural encounter, that he insisted on switching rooms. Sohail, who is touring with the Pakistan side for warm-up matches ahead of next month’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in New Zealand and Australia, woke up in the night, scared that there was a supernatural presence in his room at the Rydges Latimer Christchurch , after feeling the bed move, Fox News reported.
The all-rounder narrowly edged out a company that was planning to run a Super Bowl advertisement that made fun of puppies, and NHL team Pittsburgh Penguins, which misspelled the name of its star player on the front cover of its matchday program, Sidney Crosby was called ‘Sindey Crosby’.
Olbermann took delight in recounting Sohail’s frightful experience, after the promising batsman was reportedly left traumatised by the spooky experience in the middle of the night by what he insisted was a ghost pushing him.
However, Olbermann didn’t just poke fun of Sohail. He also mocked Stuart Broad for being scared of plumbing after recounting the time last year the England bowler was convinced a supernatural being had turned on the taps in his hotel bathroom. The American sports and political commenter also retold a famous sporting ghost story involving Australian tennis star Pat Cash, who believed he had a run-in with a ghoul in Sydney in 1987.
