Harmanpreet Kaur during her scintillating knock of 171* against Australia in the second semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, registered the highest score by an Indian player in World Cup. She went past her captain Mithali Raj’s score of 109 to achieve the feat. This was Harmanpreet’s second century in the World Cup. Her first century came against England during the 2013 World Cup, where she scored an unbeaten 107. By achieving the feat, Harmanpreet broke a plethora of records:
1. 171* is now Harmanpreet’s highest score in ODIs.
2. Harmanpreet Kaur is only the 2nd player in Women’s World Cup to score a century in knockout after Karen Rolton’s 107* in the 2005 final.
3. She is the first Indian player (Men’s and Women’s) to score 150+ in an ODI knockout. Only 6 other players have done it.
4. It was the fifth-highest score in Women’s cricket and the second highest by an Indian player after Deepti Sharma’s 188.
5. The score of 171* is also the second highest score against Australia after Chamari Atapattu’s 178*.
