The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Supernovas beat Smriti Mandhana’s Trailblazers by 3 wickets to win the Women’s T20 Challenge at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. What looked like a comfortable chase for Supernovas was stretched to the final ball where tail-ender Pooja Vastrakar clinched a single off Suzie Bates to complete the win. The match was staged ahead of the IPL 2018 Qualifier 1 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to be played at the same venue.

On a sluggish surface, Supernovas, electing to field, restricted Trailblazers to 129 for 6 in their 20 overs. They were then off to a good start and maintained a steady run rate during the chase but lost wickets at regular intervals. The opening stand of 47 off 34 balls between Mithali Raj and Danielle Wyatt set up the platform for the chase. Meg Lanning then struck three alluring boundaries but could not get going.

Poonam Yadav brought Trailblazers back in the game with the wickets of Wyatt and Lanning. between Kaur (21) and Sophie Devine (19) threatened with their stand of 35 for the fourth wicket before Suzie Bates, named Player of the Match for her all-round show, dismissed both batters.
