Hashim Amla reached the 1000-run mark in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against West Indies after he scored a 99-ball 110 to take South Africa to a massive score of 343 runs for the loss of only 4 wickets. Amla along with Quinton de Kock put on an opening wicket partnership of 182 runs to take the Proteas off to a flyer in what was an important game for them. West Indies, however were done in by the brilliance of leg-spinner Imran Tahir who took figures of 7-45 in a match-winning bowling performance. The hosts were all out for 204 in 38 overs as South Africa reached the top of the Points table sharing the same number of points with Australia. Amla, meanwhile was magnificent on the day. He took charge of the innings and scored at an impressive strike rate of 111.11. He struck 13 fours in his innings and played an invaluable knock for his side when they needed it the most. Amla who made his ODI debut in 2008 against Bangladesh, now has 6,429 runs in 135 matches for South Africa. His average of 52.26 is remarkable in itself.
Chris Morris, the all-rounder was promoted up the order after his dismissal. Morris scored 40 off 26 balls before he was out. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis also made a significant contribution for his side. Du Plessis scored 73 off 50 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.
West Indies on the other hand were blown away by Imran Tahir’s googlies. Among the other bowlers Tabraiz Shamsi took 2 wickets and Wayne Parnell ended up with a wicket to his name as well. South Africa will play against Australia in their next match at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
