Just after the conclusion of the first Test between India and New Zealand, which was played at Green Park Stadium of Kanpur, news of opener KL Rahul’s injury surfaced. This means that he is set to miss the next Test, which will be played at Eden Gardens of Kolkata, which will be India’s 250th Test at home. As reported by India Today, Gautam Gambhir is likely to replace Rahul for the next Test. After an impressive show in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy 2016, there were murmurs of Gambhir making a comeback to the side but that did not happen as the selector’s of the Indian side gave another chance to Shikhar Dhawan.
Also, not to forget that India has already another opener in the team in the form of Dhawan who has done well in home conditions in the past and if he is already in the side and fit as well, then the question comes, why opt out for Gambhir. Yes, it is a fact that Dhawan has not been at his best in recent times but he is surely expected to get another chance to prove himself in this series. Coming to Gambhir, he is a kind of player who cannot be kept out of the side if he is in the squad.

After all this speculations, Team India coach Anil Kumble was seen rolling his arm and bowling to Dhawan in an open net session at Kanpur after the match got ended. The video was shared by renowned commentator Aakash Chopra through his official Instagram account.
After watching this video, one will surely think that it’s a routine practise but it’s a fact that when a batsman is being given practise in such a way then that means he is very much likely to play in the next game.
Do not be surprised if you see the Dhawan-Vijay pair being reunited at the iconic Eden Gardens on Friday.
