Warwickshire and England batsman Ian Bell has been ruled out of Saturday’s county One-Day Cup final against Durham at Lord’s, the Midlands side announced Friday.
Warwickshire native Bell, 32, who has spent his entire career with the Birmingham-based club, suffered a broken toe during net practice while on England duty earlier this month.
Dougie Brown, Warwickshire director of cricket, told the club’s website on Friday: “Ian has been receiving intense treatment on his broken toe for several days, in hope that he could be fit for Lord’s. However, he is still several days away from regaining full fitness, and his bout of tonsillitis has made playing on Saturday impossible.
“Whilst we’re disappointed for Ian and it’s unfortunate to lose a player of his ability, we have put in some strong performances in limited overs cricket this season; claiming our first NatWest T20 Blast title and progressing to the Royal London One-Day Cup Final on Saturday. We’re all very excited about the challenge ahead.”
Bell added: “I’m gutted to miss out on a Lord’s Final and the opportunity to play in a second domestic final. However, injuries are part of the game.”
