Icc-cricket.com quoted Richardson saying, “We came to learn earlier this year that although lots of cricket was being played in the USA, and lots of passionate people were supporting the game, these efforts were largely disconnected. A focus on bringing people together to share information, discuss common issues and, importantly, start talking about how exciting the future of cricket in the USA could be was therefore needed, and that’s what was achieved during this meeting. There remains much work to do, however, judging by the attitude of those in attendance who are keen for cricket in the USA to move forward with greater purpose, this has certainly been a very positive step in the right direction.” ALSO READ: T20 cricket and USA: Stars to adorn stripes?
The basic issues that were discussed included newfangled suspension of the USA Cricket Association (USACA) and how to popularise the sport in the most developed and powerful country on the planet. Cricket has taken a backseat to many other popular sports in the United States; chief among them being American football, basketball, baseball, athletics and tennis. However, cricket is gaining ground slowly and steadily esp. after the advent of T20 cricket but that too is among the Indian Americans and English Americans and Americans of South African and Australian descent.
