ICC Women's World Cup 2013: Stefanie Taylor dreamt of scoring 94 against Sri Lanka

West Indian opener Stefanie Taylor, who cracked a career-best 171 to star in her team’s comprehensive 205-run win over Sri Lanka in the ICC Women’s World Cup league match on Sunday, had a funny thing to share — that she dreamed of making a 94 and not a century.

“I actually dreamed last night that I made 94. I woke up and said to my roommate (Shemaine Campbelle) that I dreamed that I made 94 and she asked me ‘where is the six, (sic)” said the player of the match after West Indies’ thumping victory at the MIG Club ground at Bandra on Sunday.

“I said I am actually up and I don’t know where it’s going. She reminded me about this when I went out to bat and I told her it’s in the back of my mind and I will definitely get the six (needed to get to a hundred),” added the 21-year-old Jamaican who hit 18 fours and two sixes while compiling her fourth ODI hundred in women’s cricket.

West Indies, riding on her superb knock and Deandra Dottin‘s record-breaking 20-ball 50, ran up a record-high score of 368 for eight and then bowled out Lanka for a meagre 159 to emerge clear winners that threw open the four-team group.

Asked whether she can get a double hundred in future she said her coach Sherwin Campbell wanted her to get it today but she missed out as she was tired.

“My coach wanted me get it, but I got tired,” she said.

“I love (West Indian opener and former captain) Chris Gayle,” she said when asked who was her idol.

“I would not say this is the best I have ever played I liked this innings everything went so well for us today. Today was such a good day,” she added.

West Indies captain Merissa Aguillera, who made a quick 47 not out, described it as a fine all-round team effort.

“This is a great example of an all round team effort. We batted well. Taylor did extremely well. Once we get a good start I believed we could accelerate with the batting line up we have We can bat from 1-11, We knew we could get 350 and anything above was an extra for us,” she said.

Sri Lanka captain Shashikala Siriwardene said the West Indies batters were too powerful for her bowlers to stop.

“Their batters used a lot of power and could easily clear the ground. We will try to win the next match (against India on February 5),” she said.

The Lanka captain rued that the team’s fielding was below par.

“Our fielders let us down. I am disappointed with it.

Eighty per cent of the singles they took should not have been conceded,” said Shashikala.

“I will still tell the girls to look at the positives from last match and implement those against India. At the same time we will try and learn from mistakes (we committed) in this match.

“The net run rate will be a problem that’s why we have no option but to go and win the match against India,” Shashikala added.
