The opening tie of the Australian team in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 was off to a heated start even before a ball being bowled, following West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor‘s decision to bowl at the toss. Taylor was successful in making the right call during the toss, as she said she would like to bat first, only to quickly correct it and say that she would instead like to bowl first. However, Taylor was reported to have informed Australian skipper Meg Lanning that she would be batting first. Also, the confusion was apparent when Lanning told television host Ian Bishop that she would have bowled anyways. FULL CRICKET UPDATES: Australia vs West Indies, ICC Women’s World Cup 2017

“We’re going to have a bat, sorry, we’re going to have a bowl. We think early on the pitch might do something so we hope we will get the advantage,” said Taylor. However, Lanning too said, “We were going to have a bowl so we’re looking forward to getting out there as a team and getting the World Cup started.” Lanning urged to resolve the issue as Taylor was brought back onto the middle, while there was a heated discussion on the topic. Eventually, it was decided that Taylor’s original call would stand and West Indies would be batting first. WWC 17: Bolton’s hundred guides AUS to 8-wicket win over WI
